The Many Moods of Sophia

The last two posts have been about Keenan, so i thought Sophia deserved a post of her own.

When I think of words that describe Sophia, aside from beautiful, smart and sweet, the word that always pops into my mind is mercurial. According to the dictionary, mercurial is defined as 'Quick and changeable in temperament; volatile'. Yup, that's our girl.................

Some Keenan Firsts!

Keenan caught us by surprise by taking his first two steps on his own today! We were so lucky that Colin and I both got to witness this first.
Yesterday, he put a toy in his mouth for the first time. This may not sound like such a big deal, but because he has had such a struggle with reflux and aspirating, the only thing that he ever puts in his mouth is his bib or his fingers. This first happened while he was in feeding therapy, leaving the therapist and I nearly jumping for joy. On that same topic, today he managed to get down 10 ounces of soft food (spread over three meals) and also took some tentative sips from the sippy cup.

He has become an active participant in the game of 'So Big' and loves waving at us now. He is making attempts to imitate the sounds we make and loves blowing raspberries. It is so wonderful to watch him change by leaps and bounds every day. It's as though some light inside him has turned on and he can't wait to try new things.

Can he be any cuter?

I'm sorry, I don't want to fish for compliments, but I happen to think that this is the cutest photo (thus far) I have ever taken of Keenan. He melts my heart. OK, he is also a one man wrecking crew as of late, but he is still the sweetest little boy one could hope to meet..............

Our dear friends, Adam and Michelle were expecting their first baby in November. Well apparently, their little boy, Seth, decided that was too long of a wait and showed up this past Saturday. I managed to quickly throw some things in a suitcase and Keenan, Sophia and I headed to Phoenix to meet their new addition. Mother and baby are doing well. Because he is only 26 weeks old, Seth is in the neo-natal ICU. Michelle has been discharged from the hopsital and we have returned home, but they are in our thoughts during this difficult time.

I had some great photos of Michelle and Adam with our kids, but the new memory card (something I had to purchase in Phoenix because I forgot to pack one) for my camera does not work on the camera we use to download photos. So for the time being, I am only able to post a photo of my friend Sara and her children, Kaitlin and Blake. Sara was kind enough to take us all in at a moments notice and watch the kids when I went to the hospital. Good friends are hard to come by and I'm lucky to have Michelle and Sara as two wonderful friends.

Popsicle kids

Sophia and Keenan love Popsicles. Sophia refers to them as 'pop pops' We usually reserve those treats until just before bath time. They can get as messy as they want and I don't have to stress over all those sticky fingers. The first two photos are after the bath photos, well after they got ahold of those Popsicles!

Neighbors

We have lived in Michigan for well over a year now, but it took a while to make new friends. Fortunately, Tim, Kendra and Annika relocated here from Chicago. Annika is just one month younger than Keenan. It is readily apparent that Sophia is enjoying her 'big sister' role with these two and we are grateful to have some grown ups to talk to.

Here Comes Big Foot

Sophia is quite fond of trying on other people's shoes, especially if they are adult size. She discovered Nana's shoes and decided to take them for a test drive. Amazingly, she did not trip once.

Where to start.......

There has been a lot going on the past few weeks, hence the blog updates have been scarce. I will do my best to correct that since I have been hearing some grumblings about the lack of new photos.
