And later the same day.....
Well, all we can say is that when Sophia was placed in our arms it was the happiest day for us. The same could not be said for her. She immediately started crying, then screaming, and did not stop for nearly an hour and a half. Poor little girl, she was so distraught.
I am not quite sure what turned the tide, but about 10 minutes before we left the room where we all received our babies, Sophia finally calmed down. She seemed to be enchanted with our rendition of 'Mamma's gonna buy you a mockingbird", go figure.
She is amazing, so tiny, it's hard to believe she is 10 months old. But she is so alert and inquisitive. Her eyes follow everything going on around her. By the time we had her back in our room, she was actually smiling...a lot!
She was not interested in food for the longest time, but finally ate congee at dinner. She really tried to feed herself by grabbing at the spoon and shoving it in her mouth, but isn't quite yet up to the task solo, but ate quite a bit with some assistance. She was not interested in formula before she went to bed but thought water was just fine.
We held our collective breath when it came to attempting a bath since things had been going so well, we hated to see the tears come back. She amazed us by splashing around happily, constantly getting water in her eyes. She would wipe them and promptly resume her splashing activities.
At 830 pm, she lost the battle to keep her eyes open and finally fell asleep. We put her in the crib where she sent Kat over the deep end by promptly turning over onto her stomach. When we tried to coax her to sleep on her back, she immediately turned over, and over... Finally we gave up and waited 20 minutes before rearranging her and placing her on her back. So far, she is still in that position. We don't know how long she will stay asleep, but hope it is at least until 630 am. (Hope springs eternal don't you know).
We are totally in love with this little girl. She is amazing (I think we might have used that word a few times in this post, oh well, redundancy just can't be helped sometimes.)
Wait, we just heard some noise from her crib......Oh darn, she is back on her side again! Did I mention she has pronounced stubborn streak?
Tomorrow, we will be back to the civil affairs office to finalize the adoption. We will post more as we can.
p.s. All the babies were absolutley gorgeous. With their parent's permission, I will post some photos of the other families over the coming days.
